The Career Compass

Find Your Next Career Direction

A structured tool for mid-career professionals ready for change.

You have built experience, developed valuable skills and carried considerable responsibility. Yet your work may no longer feel as secure, sustainable or fulfilling as it once did.

The Career Compass helps professional women make sense of that uncertainty and identify a considered way forward.

You do not need to have your next career mapped out. You simply need somewhere useful to begin.

When Your Career No Longer Feels Right

Perhaps you are:

  • increasingly drained by work that once motivated you
  • concerned about restructuring, redundancy or AI-related change
  • feeling overlooked or uncertain about your value
  • wondering whether you need a new role, a different organisation or a complete change
  • worried that your age, responsibilities or financial commitments have reduced your options
  • ready for change but unsure what a responsible first step looks like

These feelings do not automatically mean that you should leave your job. They do mean that something needs your attention.

The Career Compass helps you pause, examine what is happening and make decisions based on evidence rather than pressure.

These feelings do not automatically mean that you should leave your job. They do mean that something needs your attention.

The Career Compass helps you pause, examine what is happening and make decisions based on evidence rather than pressure.

Start With the Free Career Compass Starter Guide

The free 10-page Starter Guide provides a focused introduction to the Career Compass approach.

In approximately 20 minutes, you will:

  • assess your current levels of energy, fit, growth, recognition and security
  • separate what is drawing you forward from what is pushing you away
  • identify strengths and experience that can travel with you
  • consider three possible routes for change
  • examine how AI and organisational change may affect your role
  • choose one evidence-gathering action for the next seven days

You will finish with a first Career Compass snapshot and a clearer question to investigate.

Ready to Explore More Deeply

The enhanced Stage 1 Career Compass is a complete self-guided workbook for women who want to understand their options before making a significant career decision.

It takes you through all eight directions of the Career Compass:

  • North: Purpose and identity
  • South: Present reality and wellbeing
  • East: Possibilities and motivation
  • West: Strengths and transferable value
  • Northeast: Your responsible growth edge
  • Northwest: The story you hold about yourself
  • Southeast: Strategic action
  • Southwest: What you are ready to release

The workbook also helps you:

  • distinguish facts, fears and assumptions
  • identify financial, practical and personal constraints
  • widen your options beyond simply staying or leaving
  • examine which parts of your work may be automated, augmented or remain dependent on human judgement
  • compare credible career directions
  • design a low-risk career experiment
  • create a practical 30-day action plan

You can complete the Career Compass independently and return to it whenever your circumstances change.

You Are Not Starting Again

Changing direction at mid-career does not erase what you have already achieved.

The Career Compass helps you identify that value and consider where it could take you next.

A Calm and Evidence-Based Approach

I’m BJ Sandiford, an ICF-accredited Professional Performance Coach specialising in mid-career transition.

I understand that career change is rarely a simple question of finding another job. Decisions may involve income, family responsibilities, health, confidence, identity and uncertainty about how work is changing.

My approach combines thoughtful reflection with practical action. I will not push you towards a dramatic leap. I will help you understand the situation, examine your choices and identify a direction that fits your real life.

Direction before action.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know which career I want next

No. The Career Compass is designed for the stage before certainty. It helps you identify what needs to change and which possibilities deserve further investigation.

Is the enhanced Career Compass a coaching programme

No. Stage 1 is a self-guided workbook that you can complete independently. If you would like personal support, the Pathfinding Compass is used within one-to-one coaching.

Will the Career Compass tell me which job to choose

It will not produce an automatic career answer. It will help you gather the information needed to make a more considered decision.

Can I use it if I am worried about redundancy or AI

Yes. The Career Compass includes exercises that help you examine how your work may be changing, identify transferable value and decide what evidence or preparation you need.

What happens after I complete the free guide

You can continue independently with the enhanced Stage 1 Career Compass or arrange a free fit discovery call to discuss whether coaching would help.

Your Next Direction Begins With One Useful Step

You do not need to resign, retrain or reinvent yourself today.

Begin by understanding what is changing, what you need and what you already have.
